Tweet. Meet. Give. Make a Difference this Weekend

by Andrea Hill on September 10, 2009

Twestival Local takes place September 10-13, 2009 in cities across the globe.

A Twestival or Twitter-Festival is a global series of events organized by volunteers around the world under short timescales via Twitter, which brings people offline for a great cause.

Part of the power of social media, and Twitter in particular, is how quickly and easily people can communicate. The idea behind a Twestival is to leverage this natural behavior for good. Volunteers use Twitter to organize and promote events that help raise awareness and funds for good causes.

The first Twestival Global took place on Feb. 12, 2009, when events were held in 202 cities across the world. Over $250,000 was raised, with all proceeds going to Charity:Water.

Twestival Local, taking place this weekend, allows individuals to focus on how they can make a difference within their own communities. Everyone involved in putting on a Twestival is a volunteer, and teams have already been formed to organize the events. But you can still take part:

  1. Check out the map at twestival.com to see what is happening in your area
  2. Sign up as a volunteer
  3. Tweet! Spread the word about the events going on
  4. Show up, have fun, and help your local community!
